Costa is Europe’s # 1 cruise line cruising Italian Style - Costa's elegant ships display an abundance of Italian art. Costa is a multi-cultural experience, and this may not appeal to all Americans. Couples in the 35 to 55 year old range are attracted to Costa Cruises. An international air prevails on board and announcements are often made in a variety of languages. On European itineraries, Costa attracts mostly European passengers from Italy, France, Germany, Spain and Portugal.

Costa offers one of the cruise industry's most comprehensive and diverse selection of European itineraries. In fact, it's one of the few lines that sails the area on a year-round basis. Regions of Europe include the Eastern and Western Mediterranean, Western Europe and the Baltics, Costa offering almost 200 sailings, on Italian inspired ships, with 51 different itineraries. Itineraries from 5 to 17 nights are currently offered. Experience the Mediterranean, North Cape/Fjords, Baltic & Russia, and Transatlantic crossings on the Costa ships.

On an average winter sailing in Europe there are 60 - 80 English-speaking passengers. During the summer in Europe, about 20 percent of passengers will be North Americans. (The line's former policy of making announcements in five or more languages has been brought under control. There are now very few announcements, usually only one per day as the ship leaves port.) Since there are not many places for European cruise ships to go in the winter, many Costa ships are repositioned to the Caribbean every year. On South American and Caribbean cruises, the demographics flip-flop, with Costa attracting about 80 percent North American passengers (vs. 20 percent from Europe).

If you are adventurous, like exotic food, and don't mind cigarette smoke, you will find simply great bargains on modern Costa cruise ships that are basically identical in floorplan and decor to the modern Carnival Cruise Lines fleet. The truth is, Costa is a bargain in the Caribbean. So, if you can go with the flow and want to save some money, a Costa cruise is worth a try. Large dining rooms with strolling musicians and La Scala-painted murals that change in the evenings are part of the Italian style cruising with Costa.
