A 20 mile long fjord, chiseled from granite rocks, encompasses many waterfalls, large icebergs, and tall mountain peaks that reach over 5,000 feet. It is one of two 25 mile long fjords with tidewater glaciers at the head leading off Holkham Bay. The other one is Endicott Arm. The name Fjord was taken from a U S navy crewman named Ford, who survived 6 hours of massive crashing icebergs and surging tidal currents in the waterway.
See mountain goats on the near-vertical rock faces, and black bears combing the shores. Listen to the sounds of the harbour seals. This steep-sided fjord is 50 miles southeast of Juneau and is on the east side of Stephens Passage. It is highlighted by a pair of tidewater glaciers including Sawyer Glacier, said to be the bluest and most beautiful glacier in Alaska, and a collection of icebergs that float down the length of it.
Fifty miles south of Juneau, is Tracy Arm which winds its way into the Coastal Mountain Range from Stephens Passage. Rushing waterfalls and cliffs outline the long, narrow fjord highlighted by the snow capped mountains. Deer and black bears are occasionally seen on the banks; however, you will more than likely see bald eagles flying overhead and whales, sea lions, and harbor seals around your ship.
