Petersburg also known as “Little Norway,” was settled by the Norwegians. The cultural influence is strong and very much alive here. Architecture is Scandinavian. Visitors will find that the residents ocassionaly speak Norwegian. This cruise quaint cruise port, a very picturesque and completely unspoiled fishing town. The smaller cruise ships can dock at the pier, however the larger cruise ships must anchor and tender passengers to shore. Whether you dock or tender to shore, you will be at the South Harbor, just a short distance from downtown.
Situated on the extreme tip of Mitkof Island in the Alexander Archipelago. This is in the heart of the Tongass National Forest and at the northern end of the Wrangell Narrows, just off the coast of southern Alaska. Petersburg, which is a small fishing town was founded in 1897 by a Norwegian immigrant by the name of Peter Buschmann. This town is the halibut capital of Alaska! A quaint fishing community, with boardwalks and wooden bridges that lead you into the charming main town.

Everything is within walking distance from the pier and is the best way to experience the area.
The Hammer Slough: Is a wooden boardwalk area of stilt houses that sit just steps from the dock.
Sons of Norway Hall: Visitors will have a chance to view a reproduction of a Viking ship.
Clausen Museum: A jewel that offers plenty of insight into Petersburg’s development and history.
Le Conte Glacier: The southernmost active tidewater glacier in Alaska.
Eagle's Roost Park: The perfect place to view eagles during the summer cruising months.
For the active-minded there are bikes available for rent. You will find them in the lobby of the Scandia Hotel. Petersburg has many boat harbors and enjoy a walk along the docks is a relaxing way to take in the sights.
