Located on the eastern Bay of Plenty, and approximately 86 km from Rotorua. The name Tauranga means "shelter," or "resting place". Tauranga is the center of a large citrus fruit growing area. Also home to many other sub-tropical fruits. Just across the harbour is the major port, Mt Maunganui. This is the major overseas outlet for the timber industry that is established in the centre of the North Island. Tauranga is a meeting spot for thousands of those on holiday. The beautiful sands and sparkling waters make this spot an irresistible attraction.
Tauranga is a large part of New Zealand’s history. A good amount of the wars over Maori land were fought locally in the early 1860s. After the famous Treaty of Waitangi, in which the Maori chiefs acknowledged the British sovereignty, Tauranga was on its way to becoming a farm community and port.
Tauranga is the second fastest growing town in New Zealand, behind Queenstown that expands at a faster rate. A safe and exciting destination. Tauranga has everything to offer to cruise ship passengers.

A great experience. You will find yourself wanting to spend the entire day and night just soaking in the bubbling saltwater pools.

The White Island Volcano:
The only live marine volcano in New Zealand. Guided tours and hikes are quite popular.
Waitomo Caves:
An underground network of water formed caves and limestone grottoes.
