PORT: Cruise ships dock at Stadsgarden pier, approximately a mile walk into town. If this port is crowded cruise ships can dock at the city's commercial port, which is approximately a 20-minute ride into Stockholm. Regardless of which port you dock at you will find that the cruise ships generally offer shuttles to the center of Stockholm. Taxis are also available for approximately $5-10. Only pedestrians can fully experience the wonder of this city. However, the city’s subway, called the Tunnelbana, is fast and easy to use and often called “the world’s longest art gallery” because it is lined with murals.
Founded during13th century, Stockholm is Sweden’s beautiful capital and very walkable city with plenty of cobbled streets that can be hard on feet. Stockholm is captivating, quite cosmopolitan and known for its outstanding architecture. Cruise passengers will enjoy a gorgeous setting amongst the scenic waterways and parks. There are plenty of historic monuments and fine museums, great restaurants and cafes, and unique boutiques and galleries.
Sweden is governed by a constitution that is the oldest in use in Europe. Allowing it to avoid wars for more than 150 years. The cities and industry
of Stockholm remained intact during both World Wars. It's political philosophy has also added significantly to the nation’s success. Many of the country’s social achievements are due to the development of the “welfare state”. Developed during the 20th century, it provides its citizens with excellent medical care and retirement benefits. Sweden is one of the world leaders in health care as well as life expectancy.
Cruise passengers should start their exploration of Stockholm with the Gamla Stan. This is the Old Town on Stadsholmen; an island located in the center of the city. Full of medieval charm, these narrow, cobbled streets, offere plenty of art studios, boutiques, antique shops, nightclubs and bars. Gamla Stan is easily explored on foot.

Stockholm City Hall: One of Sweden's most fascinating buildings. The architecture and artistic embellishments are fabulous. This is were the Nobel Prize banquet is held every year.
Drottningholm Palace: This is the resident of the Swedish Royal Family. Here you will find the world's best preserved 18th century theatre, with the original scenery still in use.
Vasa Museet Museum: Open daily from 10am - 5pm. The museum was figuratively built around the Vasa, a 17th century warship that sank on its maiden voyage in 1628. The ship was salvaged in 1961 and almost completely intact! Besides the ship, the museum features a range of other maritime exhibits.
Moderna Museet: Open daily from 11am - 6pm. Modern art; the collection works by Dali, Kandinsky and Picasso.
Gamla Stan: The Old Town of Stockholm and a "Dont miss" attraction! A largely pedestrian-only, original city, occupying an island that's an easy stroll via a bridge
from downtown. It is surrounded by medieval-era walls.
Palace of Kungliga Slottet: The circa 18th century Royal Palace (the 17th century version had burned down) Try to time your visit around the Changing of the Guard ceremonies that are held daily at noon.
Storkyrkan Cathedral: This is where all Royal family coronations, baptisms and weddings are held.
Stortorget: A spacious plaza that was the spot for public hangings, as well as the location for the infamous Bloodbath of 1520.
Nobel Museum: Open daily in summer from 10am - 6pm featuring Cultures of Creativity: The Centennial Exhibition of the Nobel Prize, honoring a worldwide cadre of super-achievers in the areas of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, peace and economics.
Shopping: Shopping in Gamla Stan is fabulous. The main commercial street is Vasterlanggatan where you will find shops, restaurants, and fun boutiques. The most interesting shops are those with the beautifully made, & clothing, located along Osterlanggatan.
