The first permanent European settlement in 1642 was established by the French. A center for fur-trading. Then captured in 1760 by the English, Montreal became a part of the British North American empire by 1763. The American War of Independence in 1775 and 1776, brough in American troops to occupythe settlement.

An early 19th century cathedral with 228 feet twin towers. The cathedral also hosts North America’s biggest bell. See the organ with its 7,000+ pipes. Tours daily as well as 2 daily masses at 12:15 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Château Ramezay Museum:
18th century governor’s residence. A home to collections of exhibits tracing the 20th century. Built in 1922, the Clock Tower brings a touch of history to your visit. 192 steps to the observatory will give you a view of the city and river that you wont forget.
