Mangalore, located in India's Karnataka region and 357 kms west of Bangalore is an important port. It is a coastal town that is a major commercial centre. This runs almost parallel to the sea for over 95 km within the district. Though Mangalore was developed as a business and commercial centre, it still offers an old world charm. Visitors will still find the tile-roofed buildings amidst the coconut groves, the fishing boats, and the fishermen hauling in the catch of the day. The old world charm keeps Mangalore a nice place to visit.
This busy port exports seventy-five percent of the nation's coffee, spices and cashew nuts. The people of Mangalore are extremely spiritual, and this is evident in their many temples and religious traditions. There are many decorated temples, city' attractions, as well as the Nethravathi and Gurpur rivers. Boat trips are offered into the surrounding countryside.

Kadri Manjunath: Erected during the 10th or 11th centuries, this temple is home to perhaps the finest bronze statue in all of South India, a representation of Lokeshwara. The Lord Manjunathaswamy, for whom the temple was named after, is the oldest idol in South India.
Pulikula Nisarga Dhama: Locate at Mudushedde, 11 km (15 minutes) north-east from Mangalore. This is an integrated tourist destination with plenty of attractions.
Narharigudda: About 28 km (30 minutes) from Mangalore. A calm and quiet hamlet that is surrounded by natural and scenic beauty.
Yakshagana: An elaborate dance-drama performance unique to Karnataka. Make your visit complete by seeing this. This event lasts the entire evening. People dance to the beat of the drums.
Katil: Approximately 27 km (30 minutes) east, on the banks of the river Nandini. Here visitors will see the famous temple dedicated to Poarameshwari Durga.
Jamalabad: The fort here was built by Tipu Sultan and named after his mother Jamalbee.
Karkala: A 452 foot tall monolithic statue of Bahubali along with the St. Lawrence Church are the main attractions here.
Udupi: Here visitors will see the famous Krishna Temple with the Gold Chariot. Saint Madhwacharya lived and preached here 700 years ago.
Other attractions worth seeing are the 10th century Manjunatha Temple, St. Aloysius Chapel, Mangala Devi Temple, and Tipu's Battery.
