Kauai located in north-western Hawaii and situated north-west of Oahu, is separated by the Kauai Channel, and east of Niihau, which separates it from the Kaulakahi Channel. This is the state's fourth-largest island, and known as the Garden Island, because of the many flowers and foliage that flourish everywhere. The island was formed by volcanic action. Covered with mountains, the highest being Kawaikini Peak, at a 5,243 ft above sea level. The area of this island is 552 square miles. The island raises sugar cane and tropical fruits. Kauai with its many canyons, the deepest of which is Waimea, at almost 10 miles long and more than 0.5 miles deep.

In January 1778 Captain Cook came ashore and was received as a god. The visitors to this island are received in much of the same way. In keeping the island historic and quaint, no buildings are allowed to be taller than the height of a coconut tree, and there are no major shopping malls.

The area of Poipu has the best beaches on Kaua'i which are protected by a chain of offshore reefs. Sailing, diving, and deep sea fishing are all available and depart daily from the Kukui'ula Harbour. Kauai is one of the most beautiful Hawaiian islands with many natural wonders including Waimea Canyon, and the Na Pali Coast, Hawaii’s most amazing sea cliffs.
