Climate and current weather information for Rhodes: The island enjoys a mild climate with adequate rainfall, which accounts for its profuse vegetation. In reality there are only two seasons: spring and summer. After November, when the first rains fall, the ground is carpeted with green and by February Rodos has become one vast flower garden. May sees the beginning of summer, when the earth gradually takes on a golden colour, until November, when the cycle starts again. On average, Rodos has 300 days of sunshine a year, while between April and October, the chances of uninterrupted sunshine are nearly one hundred per cent. During that period the temperature is in excess of 77°F/25°C. The summer heat is offset by a cooling, and sometimes strong, sea breeze. The summer with daily highs in the 70°F/20°C and 80°F/27°C.

Cruise passengers will discover that Rhodes, located seven miles from the Turkish coast, is the largest of the twelve Dodecanese islands. The third largest of all the Greek Isles, Rhodes is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. In the ancient times, the Colossus of Rhodes was a landmark built at the entrance. It was a 105-foot statue which was built on a 35-foot stone base and was thought to be one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world.
You don't want to miss your arrival in Rhodes. It is a wonderful experience as this is the sunniest of all Aegean islands. It is a short walk from the dock to the Rhodes Town's old section. There are taxis lined up at the end of the pier. However, the best way to see Rhodes is on foot.

Cruise passengers will find plenty to do in Rhodes. Visit Symi Square and walk from the waterfront into the Old Town. You will pass through the grand entrance of Eleftherias Gate
and through a large arched walkway. Through the gates, are the remains of the Temple of Aphrodite, built in the 3rd century BC.
The Medieval Old Walled City: Built by the Crusaders, the Knights of St. John. Here will find the historic Hospital of the Knights, Street of the Knights, and Palace of the Grand Masters.
Visit the Street of the Knights, The Inns of Auvergne, Italy, France, Provence, Spain, the Inns of the Tongues, representing the different nations of the Knights of St. John. The Knights were a mixed group, reported speaking ancient tongues. The knights of different language groups used to meet at the inns provided.
Hospital of the Knights/Archaeological Museum: Known for its collection of ancient pottery and sculpture it includes two statues of Aphrodite. There are Mycenaean and Roman relics on display as well.
Palace of the Grand Masters: This medieval palace, with moat, was built in the 14th century by the Knights of St. John. It was rebuilt in 1939 after it was destroyed by fire in 1856. It was rebuilt as a vacation home for Mussolini.
Ancient City: Outside of town on the Monte Smith, are the ruins of the Temples of Apollo, Zeus, and Athena Poliados, and the 2nd century BC stadium, gymnasium, and theater.
Agia Agathi: This beach is located on the eastern shore of the island, between Rhodes Town and Lindos. Agia Agathi gets quite crowded mainly because of the attractions. At the end of beach is the ancient monastery of Agia Agathi from which the beach derives its name.
Lindos: A quaint town with whitewashed houses, built on golden sand. Here you can see the ruins of the Doric Temple of Athena Lindaia, inside the medieval citadel.
Petaloudes Valley: (Valley of the Butterflies): This valley is known for being filled with butterflies from late July through late September. The slightest movement sends them into the air for a breathtaking show. The valley is itself a natural wonder with streams, waterfalls, a lake, old wooden bridges, and so forth.
Embonas: This Greek village is located in the green foothills at the base of Mount Ataviros. Embonas has a great, friendly atmosphere that is very welcoming.
Shopping: Visit Sokratous Street (Socrates Street). It is a great place to look for local pottery and embroidery, sea sponges, gold and silver jewelry, carpets, kilims (reversible rugs), and leather goods.
Sports &Activities: Enjoy laying out in the sun and swimming in Rhodes Town. Rhodes Town is at the northern tip of Rhodes Island and is surrounded by beaches to the East and the West. If you are looking for a more secluded beach, try the beaches just south of Lindos on the Bay of Lardos. The further south you travel, the less likely you are to encounter people. You could end up on a beach all to yourself. Enjoy windsurfing, snorkeling and scuba diving as well.
