Taxis are available while in Huatulco at affordable rate. Yet, your best bet is to rent a car. Several outfitters can provide you with a reliable automobile, including Advantage Rent-a-Car de Mexico (tel. 958/7-00-34) and Budget Rent a Car (tel. 958/7-00-10).

This region is beautiful and very active. There are over thirty beaches that make up the bays of Huatulco. The entire community is, basically a beach, so no matter where you are you will never be far from the beautiful, tropical sea and sand. The region had been continuously occupied for millennia even before the Aztecs welcomed Spanish explorers ashore almost 500 years ago. However, the land was generally poor for farming, and permanent settlements favored the cooler, less humid inland valleys. Development simply had to wait for air-conditioning, jet travel, and tourism. Therefore, except for the cruise pier itself and its few surrounding buildings, practically everything in Huatulco is new. Some of the coffee beans that grow in the hills beyond Huatulco end up in gourmet ice creams.
Attractions

There are a couple of outstanding restaurants for you to enjoy on this stop during your cruise vacation. There is limited shopping in Huatulco but it is still an enjoyable experience. Visit La Crucecita, site of another of the three original villages, which is today, downtown Huatulco.
If you prefer relaxation then continue on to Tangolunda, the third village. Here is where beach lovers from the nearby deluxe resort hotels come to spend their days in the sun. Its real attractions are gorgeous bays, golden-sand beaches and jungle terrain. But if you’re not in a rush to get to the beach, you could easily spend a few hours exploring the villages that make up the resort area. Palapas—those thatched huts where vendors sell fresh seafood and drinks—line the shore.Take time to visit the Lady of Guadalupe Church on the plaza. A huge painting of the Virgin of Guadalupe covers the entire cupola of the church.
