Attractions

Here are some of the most popular attractions and tours that cruise passengers can enjoy in Puerto Montt.
Flightseeing Over Lakes and Volcanoes:
On this excursion you can view the spectacular scenery of the Chilean Lake District from the air. The tour begins at the pier and takes you to the Puerto Montt airport where you board the aircraft. The plane takes you over some of the lakes and volcanoes. You will see Osorno, Calbuco, and Puntiagudo volcanoes, as well as Llanquihue, Todos los Santos (also known as the Emerald Lake for the color of its waters), and Chapo Lakes. You will also fly over the Alerce Andino National Park with trees that are 5,000 years old. The flight lasts for one hour, then you return to Puerto Montt's airport and finally to the pier.
Puerto Montt and Frutillar:
Another recommendation is to take a city tour of Puerto Montt, the capital of Region X. On this tour, visit the Main Square, or Plaza de Armas. Then head north to Lake Llanquihue, Chile's largest lake. Visit Frutillar, the German-style village which is situated on the West side of Lake Llanquihue.
Petrohue and Esmeralda Lake:

Take a drive along the southern shores of Lake Esmeralda through Ensenada located at Vicente Perez Rosales National Park. Be sure to see Lake Todos los Santos, also known as the Emerald Lake because of its beautiful, light-green water. Take the 45 minute catamaran and enjoy the beautiful views. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the famous Petrohue Waterfalls. Also visit the local Fish and Handicraft Market at Angelmo, a nearby fishing village.
Fly Fishing Expedition:

This five hour tour is offered to a minimum of two guests. The landscape here is incredible, and there are many lakes and rivers which provide for great sport fishing. Your experienced guide will take you to the best places where you can try your luck fishing for salmon or trout. Included in this tour is a picnic lunch, cocktail, fishing equipment, and permit. There is no limit because fishing is on a catch and release basis.
Alerce Mountain Lodge & The 4000 Year Old Trees:
If you are looking for adventure then this is the tour for you. This tour involves a bumpy ride and a long hike. From the pier you follow the Carretera Austral south along the Reloncaví Estuary for 23 miles, and then begin the steep climb to the lodge on a road constructed of alerce logs. After the ride from Puerto Montt to the Andes Mountains in a twin-cabin 4WD vehicle, you will reach the Alerce Mountain Lodge. During this long, bumpy drive up to the lodge, you will make a short stop to see "El Tata" or the "The Grandfather," one of the oldest alerce trees in the area, about 4,000 years old. You will have a chance to take some photographs and ask the guide questions. Soon you will reach Laguna Reflejos, Lake of Reflections, and board a small hand-drawn raft for the last leg of the journey to Alerce Mountain Lodge. At the lodge you will receive an introduction to its history. After having soft drinks and biscuits you will then go on a 2 hour hike to the Oro Verde Mayor or "Green Gold." The tour continues to "El Condor" an observation point where you can look down into a glacial valley formed millions of years ago. A highlight will be the Fountain of Hope, where crystal-clear water running from the mountains forms a beautiful waterfall and pool. After a 3-course lunch with wine, you will board the vehicles and head back down to Puerto Montt. As the hike takes place in dense forest, water resistant walking shoes or boots are a must and sturdy trousers such as jeans are strongly recommended. Shorts are not to be worn. An English-speaking guide will travel in one of the vehicles and stops will be made on the way up to the lodge to describe certain points of interest.
River Rafting on The Petrohue:
River rafting on the Petrohue River. Your guide will make their way through thunderous rapids. It is a whitewater experience that you will never forget. Wet suits are provided and so is a picnic lunch that is served on the river bank. This tour is about 1 hour and 30 mins long. You must know how to swim if you would like to take this tour.
