Boca de means “mouth of” and is an entrance of the Valeria River, located on the south bank on a 400ft hill and overlooking the Amazon. It is located between Parintins and Santarem. The "mouth" of the Valeria River, the colorful Caboclo village contains a few wooden houses and an abundance of local wildlife, including monkeys, birds and several varieties of flora. As your ship remains anchored offshore, canoes bearing the local inhabitants will glide through the river's waters, providing a fascinating display of the colorful culture of the Amazon region. Truly another world, this tiny Indian village is hidden amid jungle lakelands where the screeches of colorful parrots fill the air and trees stand waist-high in water. Observe Amazonian lifestyles up close and barter for local crafts.

The people here are called Caboclos, descendents of the portuguese settlers who intermarried with the local indians. They live off the land by fishing, keeping pigs and raising chickens and when the river is low by planting manioc and vegetables on a small patch of land.
This stop is at a tiny village of riberinhos (river dwellers) with a permanent population of from 75 to 100 people depending on who is talking. The population swells when ships stop here as people from nearby villages flock into town to capture some of the tourist largesse.
The cruise ship's anchor in the Amazon River, where locals come out in canoes to meet & greet the ship. The ship's tender will take you through the 200 meters of channel and go past the primitive Caboclo Village consisting of only a few wooden houses. It is not possible to go ashore, so your ship's tender ride will take you as close as possible for a close up view of life on the Amazon. Light clothing and sunscreen is suggested.
"Boca da Valeria" can only accommodate 200 visitors at a time. This system is devised in the interest of your comfort and safety and to control the number of people ashore at any given time
