Paranagua withis the chief port of the state of Parana. It is also one of the main ports for exporting coffee. Founded in 1585 and located 268 km south of Santos, Parangua is on a lagoon 29 km from the open sea. It is approached via the Bay of Paranagua and is home to many picturesque islands. The fort of Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres was built in 1767 on a nearby island, approximately 1 hour away by boat trip.
