Re: Voyage 20338; October 21, 2007; Radiance of the Seas
I am extremely disappointed in the 14 day Hawaiian cruise we just completed on the Radiance of the Sea. Not one day went by without some issue that took pleasure out of our vacation. Due to numerous changes in the schedule we had only 1 shore excursion, all others were canceled. We did not go on a 14 day cruise for one excursion. The complaint dept, "Dahila" said we got room and board for 14 days so we had no right to complain about the excursions being canceled and changed.
The issue that really hurt was the fact the trip was a gift to my husband’s parent which are in their late 70’s. They were meeting a couple in Hilo that they had not seen in over 20 years. Hilo was canceled at the last moment and we returned to Maui for a second visit on the same trip. We did not sign up for this cruise to have total changes and ruined port excursions due the poor planning of your cruise staff.
One change was because their was a fishing tournament that was crowding the port, this tournament was schedule over a year ago, why did the planning of this trip not catch that error before we were on the ship with plans.
I have also attached a copy of my excursion bill. I was not given credit for the tours that were canceled due to the poor planning of your staff. The only tour we took was to the IAO Plantation.
Problem Issues:
1. Bike Tours canceled prior to sail date
2. Changed time docked in Mexico from 13 hours to 1 hour
3. Entire schedule was changed after we were on the ship due to a fishing tournament that is scheduled a year in advance.
4. Hilo was canceled due to bad weather; friends on Hilo we were to visit saw other cruise lines in port.
5. Security on Hilo advised our friends that they were not told of the change and were expecting us
6. Lahina was cut short by 4 hours due to security not being advised we were coming there instead of Hilo.
7. Lines for tenders to get back to the ship were 1 to 2 hours in the hot sun. No one from the ship was there to assist the elderly or have water for them. I asked the security to help two ladies that were suffering from heat exhaustion.
8. Due to the Lahina delay (Security) our Crater tour was canceled and by the time we were advised what was happening all cars were rented so we did not get to tour as planned.
9. My credit card was over-billed due to the many changes in excursions made by the changes in plans.
Voyage 20338
Planned/Expected End Result Issues
Haleakala Bike Tour Canceled Missed
Haleakala Crater Tour Missed due to 4 hour delay getting off ship Missed due to all cars rented by time we got off the ship & too late for ship tour
Arizona Tour Overbooked Missed
Hilo Port Day Canceled Missed friend from 25 years ago, had planned to visit, other ships were in port on that day in Hilo (Security advised our friends in Hilo they were not told the ship was changing ports)
Ensenada, Mexico Change from 13 hour stay to “1” hour stop Missed golf that had been setup
Entire Schedule Change Changed due to Fishing Tournament (Planned over a year in advance) Someone should have known this before we got on the ship with all our plans
We did the IAO Plantation tour and it was great. Problem is we did not go on a 14 day cruise and pay for my husband’s parent’s cruise for 1 excursion. They went for the friend they were to see in Hilo and the chance to see Hawaii not the ocean and ship.
Our Wait Staff was wonderful, every night at dinner they did everything they could to make it special. Head waiter was Rogelio and his assistant was Richard.
They did a great job.
Our cabin attendant was also very attentive. Room 3530.
After this experience, I can not suggest Royal Caribbean to friends and family at this time.
